A friend of mine recently was given a saree as a gift. She was wondering at what times it would be appropriate for her to wear and if it is customary to wear it causually at all. I had no idea and was hoping someone could clarify if they are still "in style" and whether it would be cultural appropriation to wear one which was given as a gift.
