What is it like to fly on a plane during the COVID epidemic?

I have not flown COVID-19 has spread to the United States but will be flying to college soon and was wondering how the experience was. Are the airlines and airports implementing new procedures to ensure safety? Are other passengers going to be taking it seriously? How safe is flying in comparison to other types of interaction.

  1. Hi Matt, Hopefully you are healthy and planning to travel soon.

Flying during the pandemic changes week to week but some things are always true:

    • You must wear a mask the entire time you are traveling from boarding thru disembarking.
    • There is little to no food service on the plans to limit mask removal.
    • Airline reserve the right to refuse service to people they believe could be ill.

Other things that may occur depend on the airline, the airport or local laws:

    • Middle seats may not be open for passenger seating to give more space between passengers.
    • You may be given an antibacterial wipe as you board to give you the opportuntiy to further clean your space on the plane
    • There are fewer flights available for travel and fewer options.
    • Many shops and food locations in the airport may be closed.

I recommend bringing your own antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, multiple masks, snacks to curb your hunger, and a whole lot of patience.
