Not in my experience.  When Solana (SOL) was lauded as the fastest new implementation of Blockchain currencies, I bought several $K worth as a test investment.  Its value collapsed in spite of the good reviews.  Looks like all that matters (so far) is how cleverly the promoters suck in the marks.  Honest innovation gets nowhere. 

    That being said, if you have the stomach for watching the market like a hawk and a means of buying & selling on a moment's notice with negligible cost, you can probably use crypto like any "penny stock" to buy as it bottoms out and sell as it tops out, using it as a "pump" that transfers the capital of sluggish traders into the pockets of attentive ones. 

     

    Or you could just learn to count cards and go to Las Vegas.
