Especially with a little adult beveraging going on, these games are fun:

    1. Cards Against Humanity  Dark, sardonic and completely inappropriate.  Excellent game to play.

    2.  Catan-  the "Build Your Own Civilization" card game.  Interesting, but could be faster paced.

    3.  How about... PANDEMIC- The Game.  It's up to you to save the world.

    4.  Ultimate Werewolf  A great strategy/thinking game

    5.  And, if you're not all that rational, Clue is available, too.

    6.  Sometimes, it's just better to relax, sip on a little something, and chat about nothing and everything, while your mind is busy working on something- like tricky jigsaw puzzles:  https://totallythebomb.com/unique-puzzles-use-jigsaw-pieces-that-are-shaped-like-animals-and-i-want-them-all

That should do you for a start.

  2. I think the best "board" games for casual play have to be

    1) Fast Paced

    2) Easy to Learn

    3) Competitive without being ruthless

I love the "Forbidden Island / Forbidden Desert" games - co-op where its your team against the game.  Simple to learn and has adjustable difficulty

Ticket to Ride is another classic.

For me, Settlers of Catan falls just outside the zone - it takes a little too long to play and learn.  Its a GREAT game if you put in the energy but you wouldn't want to teach it for a fun game night, IMO.

Codenames is another - more "party" game than board game, but lots of fun.
