What is the best knot to use when making stetch bracelets?

I've read that surgeon's knots are good for making bracelets with elastic cord, but is this the best? It can be tricky to get an even tension, so the ideal knot should be very tight, resist slipping, and have a low profile. Any jewelry makers care to weigh in? I'm only making these for fun, so it doesn't have to be perfect, just sturdy and easy to tie.
