How can I design the kitchen in my Victorian home?

Topic: Lifestyle, Hobbies, and Leisure ,    Subtopic: Interior Design and Decorating

Decorating most of my 120-year-old home has been easy with antiques, fancy lighting, rugs, and warm colors. The kitchen, however, is hard to design in a period-appropriate style. The kitchen was an addition made in the 1920s and relied solely on a (now-removed) wood stove in the middle of the house,...

While knitting a lace shawl, I realized I made a major mistake... 12 rows down. Do I have to rip it out or can I fix it?

Topic: Lifestyle, Hobbies, and Leisure ,    Subtopic: Making and Tinkering, Handicrafts, Decorative Arts and Crafts, Crafting

The mistake is major enough that the lace looks very wrong and the stitch count is off. Do I have to rip back 12 rows? These rows are hundreds of stitches long, so that'd be hours of work lost....

What's the simplest way to identify whether a ceramic sculpture has value or not?

Topic: Lifestyle, Hobbies, and Leisure ,    Subtopic: Antiques, Vintage, Collectables

It's almost garage sale season and I always find myself drawn to ceramic pieces of art, especially old-looking antique ones. Someday I might find a rare piece and strike it rich (pipe dream, I know) and I wonder what I should look for when making a purchase. Any antiquers here care to share their se...

How can I perfect the art of comedic timing?

Topic: Lifestyle, Hobbies, and Leisure ,    Subtopic: Humor

Everyone knows the secret to telling a great joke is timing. An audience will only find a joke funny once, so telling and retelling the same joke to the same audience never works. That means that in order to practice comedic timing, a comedian would have to get a new audience every time they practic...

What are some of the best advent calendars to buy for yourself?

Topic: Lifestyle, Hobbies, and Leisure ,    Subtopic: Collecting

There's an advent calendar out there for every taste! I like them as a mid-winter daily pick me up, not as a religious symbol, so I'm always on the hunt for a new and exciting advent calendar with great daily gifts. A lot of them are wildly expensive, and some have less than exciting treats inside. ...
