What is the best way to make and follow through with goals?

I've always been an avid plan/list/goal maker. Sometimes I follow through, and many more times these lists and plans are never touched again after being written. I'm at a point in my life where I want to make a comprehensive set of goals for the next several months and make sure I follow through with them. This doesn't only pertain to personal finance, but also my career, my health, and my hobbies. What is the best way to go about this? Any suggestions that have personally worked for you?

    Dear Daina,

Thank you for sharing your challenge. I am self-employed Knowledge Manager & E-Learning specialist and I have to tell you - everybody has issues with procrastination and sticking to their plans and goals. And that is okay, because we are humans.

But if you feel like you want to accomplish something and need a little support along the way, then I can personally recommend:

    • This free online course from Barbara Oakley.
It took me personally only two days to complete the course, even if it says 4 weeks.
This course has recently helped me to focus and really get things done.
    • Another big help for me is my morning and evening routine, which is accompanied by the 5-minute gratitude journal  and a short round of stretching/ dancing
    • Book from Stephen Covey: 7 habits of highly effective people (I have inserted a short video summary, because it is for free and gives you an approximate feeling about the content)
    • Healthy nutrition & enough physical activity help the brain function (it is really true :D)

These would be some of my recommendations which helped me: If you know what you want (which is the first and very important step), then you only need discipline, willpower and to have a structured day with routine, which helps you keep an overview of your tasks. When you have set your "big goals", it is important to break them down into smaller accomplishable tasks, which are essential in order to achieve your goal(s). It is a process which takes a bit time so being patient is necessary, even if not every day is the best.

    I hope I could help a bit.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me :)

    Best,

    Paulina
