    Ramblers should be pruned in summer, after the bloom,  taking any side shoots off and pruning back older, woody growth which didn't bloom or leaf well. Here's a good video from the UK, where ramblers are ubiquitous, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS2JIltp9Ls


    You can also train your rambler up a trellis which becomes a lovely focal point of your garden, or over an arbor which is absolutely stunning; then you don't have to prune as often.
