When is the correct time to prune a rosebush?
I have a rambling rose that needs to be pruned. I keep it pinned down to make it vaguely bush-shaped but it's gone a bit wild. Now that the weather is getting cooler, I wonder if it is time to cut it back. It's still producing a few roses and the leaves are still green.

Ramblers should be pruned in summer, after the bloom, taking any side shoots off and pruning back older, woody growth which didn't bloom or leaf well. Here's a good video from the UK, where ramblers are ubiquitous, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RS2JIltp9Ls
You can also train your rambler up a trellis which becomes a lovely focal point of your garden, or over an arbor which is absolutely stunning; then you don't have to prune as often.
