  1. Hi, sorry I missed this question when it was first posted.  Tango is a fine choice for a first dance - not the easiest, but not the hardest either.

There are several variations of Tango, and depending on how long you want to spend learning and practicing, you'll probably want "american style," which breaks the dance down into a few very basic steps for beginners.

Waltz is much harder than people think it is, mostly because of the 3/4 time of the music but also because until you are moderately proficient, the basics don't move around very much.

Rumba has a box step, similar to Waltz, but is easier to learn because the music is in 4/4 (why 4/4 is easier than 3/4 is a longer answer!) and because you are staying in the same spot on the dance floor, it is easier to learn a few more moves in a few lessons, making it well suited to wedding dances.  Lots of good wedding songs lend themselves to a Rumba as well.

Foxtrot is probably right in the middle of Rumba/Waltz, and is slightly easier than Tango.  It moves around fairly easily and lots of big band music was written for Foxtrot.

If you haven't come to a conclusion yet, and would like a consult, let me know!
