Can you request that your Uber driver stop making small-talk, or is that rude?
By hiring an Uber you are making a business transaction and sometimes I am far too tired for small talk or I have a headache after a long day. I really don't want to be rude, but I don't know how to say that I don't want to talk because it is both a formal and informal situation at the same time. Any suggestions?

You can absolutely make that request - often, now, you are offered that option as a setting in the app when you are requesting the ride! Its your nickel, you should get the most comfortable ride you can get. Don't hesitate to ask them to change/turn off the radio either!
I've never had any issues telling a Lyft or Uber driver that I'd rather nto engage in conversation -- usually telling them something like I'm tired, just got off a long flight, need to focus on a meeting, whatever. It's not my normal course, I don't mind some light conversation most of the time, but there are times when I'd rather ride in silence.
