How long should my exposure time be when taking pictures of celestial objects?

I have an 8" dobsonian telescope and I'd like to start taking pictures of what I see. When I look through the telescope, the objects become out of view within a few seconds. How long of an exposure time would I have to set my camera to in order to accept the most light while also reducing the trailing of the light?
