Does anyone know where to find Formula 409?

I have been looking for Formula 409 since the first week of March. I have looked online and every time I go out to shop. The best I have found is a generic "compare to" brand, and it is so harsh, the fumes make my eyes water. It is like straight bleach. I don't understand how there can be such a shortage 7 months later. Anyone have a line on some 409? Or can you recommend a good virus-killing substitute that is not so harsh?

Have you checked Home Depot/Lowes?  Their websites say they have it, although it is possible they are sold out locally. Call your local stores and ask.

Although, according to Wikipedia, even that idea may be fruitless: "In early 2020 Formula 409 became impossible to find in stores[4] and disappeared from the "products" listing at the Clorox website.[5] Some websites said Clorox has discontinued the product.[6] There has been no announcement or news release, and the website www.formula409.com is still active.[7] "

If you are seeking a good degreaser, here's a ranked list:  https://homesthetics.net/best-kitchen-degreaser/  While I've never tried KrudKutter, I have tried GreaseRelief and find it decent.

However, I make my own: A few drops of Dawn and a couple Tablespoons of ammonia used with a good-textured cloth or scrubber usually works for me. Might have to rinse it, true, but put it on wet, let it sit a bit, then use a scrubber pad and the area is clean.  Both Dawn and ammonia will kill most bacteria and viruses because of their strong pH levels.

  2. This is a great answer! Thank you! Just FYI, yes, we have looked at Home Depot, Ace and Menards. No luck. But I will try your homemade alternative. I like that even better! It sounds cheaper and less toxic.
