Ammonia and bleach makes chlorine gas. What other household chemical combinations can be dangerous?

Combining any sort of household cleaning agents is inadvisable, but it is easy to use more than one on different surfaces while cleaning the same room. This alone can cause toxic vapors, even when used in small quantities. Ammonia and bleach is the most well-known combination, but I’m sure there are other deadly chemicals under the kitchen sink!

  1. I haven't ever done it myself, but "they say" you can inflate a drycleaning bag with the hydrogen generated from a reaction of dry Drano (lye, NaOH) with shredded aluminum foil in a little water.  You put the NaOH and Al in a film can (remember film cans?) inside the sealed, empty bag with a small vial of water; when ready to launch, pour the water into the film can and watch the bag slowly inflate.  Eventually it will displace enough air to begin rising.  After that, look out for low-flying aircraft!  Needless to say, I have NEVER engaged in such illegal activities!  Neither should you!
