What are some tips to find abandoned homes in cities?

I recently got an opportunity where I get a finders’ fee for finding abandoned homes in my city. I just don’t know the best way to look for these homes.

    Search pre-foreclosure (a homeowner is more than 90 days late on the mortgage payments and the bank has begun the foreclosure process.) under lis pendens  (a written notice that a lawsuit has been filed concerning real estate, involving either the title to the property or a claimed ownership interest in it.) The notice is usually filed in the county land records office. You will find a number of abandoned homes.
