What age should kids be allowed to have social media?

When I was growing up, my parents were very reserved about me getting a phone, MySpace and Facebook. I thought they were being super overprotective ,but now with Cambridge Analytica and everything coming out about how people steal and store your data, I think they were probably right to be hesitant about it. Now we are in a totally different society from the 90s-2000s and it is much more normalized to have Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook and who knows what else! I don't think keeping them away from everything and telling them they can't do it will be very productive or benefical to our relationship, so what age is appropriate to let them have social media? Would also be open to a more "merit based" allowance, where once they prove they could be responsible they could have access to more online platforms.
