Is it ok to wait another 5,000 miles before getting my oil changed?
I have driven just over 5,000 miles since my last oil change. I was wondering if it's ok to drive the next 5,000 miles or so before actually paying for another oil change.

Changing your oil may seem like a minor task, but it is not. The oil in your car lubricates all the moving parts in your engine. Over time, contaminants and other materials can build up in your oil, decreasing its efficiency. This can cause the parts in your engine to wear out faster, reduce car performance and gas mileage, and in severe cases cause your car to break down. I would check your owners manual to see what kind of oil they recommend. Usually they also recommend an oil change schedule. Synthetic oils tend to last longer; I only have to change my oil every 7,500 miles. Don't forget to periodically check your oil levels as well. Low oil can cause irreperable damage to your engine.
