How do astronauts use the restroom in space?

I've always loved watching cute clips of astronauts slurping water from floating balls in space, but it leads my mind to different questions... how do astronauts use the restroom in space? Have there been any advanvements in space restroom science since the first couple of missions? Are they pumping their waste out to the vast expanse of the unknown, or do they bring it back with them in their ships when they come back to Earth?
