How can I give my kids a fun, but safe, Halloween trick or treat experience in 2020 with Covid-19/Coronavirus factored in?

I have a 3-year old that I'd like to give a fun experience for Halloween this year. But the question is also a general question about 3-10 year olds that are extremely excited every year to get candy. Several of my doctor friends have said it should be safe and to wear a mask, etc.

What are other parents doing?

If your feeling it is too soon to actually go trick or treating, create the holiday at home. If it is good weather, you could set up a table with the candy on it in the yard. Then decorate it just like you would any other holiday. Encourage the little ones to dress up and play along. Maybe be a witch with flying monkeys? Remind your family to social distance. It could be like a small play for the neighborhood. Everyone gets their candy and everyone stays safe.

If the children are older, ask them to create the decorations.

If it is permitted in your state, allow the older children to go trick or treating, but only with an adult and masks if required. Another idea is to have the kids wear gloves until they are done going out. If they complain about the restrictions, let them "doll" up the masks and gloves to match their costumes.
