    • As Ukraine declared a nationwide state of emergency on Thursday, UNICEF appealed to all warring parties to allow full humanitarian access to families and children who have long suffered the adverse effects of the protracted conflict in the country — and whose lives and well-being are now under even greater threat.

"Heavy weapons fire along the line of contact has already damaged critical water infrastructure and education facilities in recent days," UNICEF Executive Director Catherine M. Russell said in a Feb. 24 statement. "Unless the fighting subsides, tens of thousands of families could be displaced, dramatically escalating humanitarian needs."

    • Sunflower of Peacehas officially started a fundraiser to prepare first aid medical tactical backpacks for paramedics and doctors on the front lines. In 2014-2016 those backpacks helped paramedics and doctors on the front lines save hundred and hundred of lives. Those were the bags they didn't leave out of their sight as they had everything to preserve a person's life and get them to proper medical care alive. It meant the world to them then and it will mean the world to them now.
Please, donate any amount: big or small as everything makes a huge difference.
Each backpack has the ability to save up to 10 lives: Ukrainian soldiers, civilians, volunteers, and children. These backpacks are designed for a second level of medical care in terms of combat action, according to the standards of tactical medicine (Tactical Combat Casualty Care), namely the level of paramedics, arrow-sanitary department.

  2. K gives good information.  I'll be more general and terse:

Back when the Soviet Union collapsed, the Russian people were in dire straits the first winter and I helped my students organize a "CARE package" of blankets and chocolate bars; but it turned out to be impossible to send them, because our government made no effort to facilitate such aid.  It was more expensive to send the goods than it would have been to just send money and let the people buy chocolate & blankets.  Thus the West lost a golden opportunity to "make friends" with the Russian people.  Instead we left them to the exploitation of the Mafiya who now rule Russia with Putin as their Godfather.

Insofar as your government facilitates meaningful help for Ukraine, make use of that facilitation!  Maybe offer to receive refugees into your own home or community.  Send money for supplies.  Whatever.  But above all, encourage such facilitation, lest Ukraine one day become an enemy too!
