Probably not every home, but solar panels are compatible with all major roof construction techniques. It is much more likely that a roof is unsuitable for solar panels due to local shadows, such as trees or other buildings, than for the roof to be unsuitable due to the construction. Solar panel installers in most places are required to perform a survey to establish that the roof is sound, prior to panel installation. Light roofs such as wood shingles may only be suitable for lighter panels, such as "thin-film" panels rather than crystalline silicon panels. These "thin-film" panels are more expensive, so it may effect the ROI of your investment and make it less economically attractive.
