So I just learned a housefly deterrent: Irish Spring Bar Soap.
Apparently, all you have to do is stick the unwrapped bar of Irish Spring into one of those smaller/narrower nylon net baggies, (like onions or avocado s come in)and hang it up by your door- flies along with many other insects DO NOT LIKE Irish Spring Scent.
Okay, so what does this have to do with your plants? If it were me, I'd pare off a curl or two from a bar of Irish Spring and put it on the soil of the plant- just let it lay there, like an offering of GO AWAY PEST! fruit.
Should work.
I know when plants get aphids and there are just not enough ladybugs in the world to handle the problem, the solution most often given is to spray said plants with soapy water- especially the undersides of the leaves where pesty things like to hide. So there's some evidence Irish Spring- especially- might work without being too toxic.
Good luck.
