Can you save a grapefruit for later once it's been cut open?
If I want to eat half of a grapefruit, is there a way to preserve the other half to eat later? It's a red grapefruit, if that matters.

Like most citrus fruits, grapefruit can be kept for a little while once cut open, as long as a few precautionary steps are taken. Once you've cut the fruit open, it's a good idea to immediaetly wrap the remaining half and refrigerate it. A good method is to wrap the cut grapefruit tightly in plastic wrap, with the exposed side facing the plastic, and then wrap or twist the remianing part around the rest of the fruit. The peel of the fruit does a decent job of protecting the other side, so the biggest concern is keeping the cut side from being exposed to air as much as possible. (For extra security, you can also place the tightly wrapped fruit in a plastic bag.) Then place the fruit in the refrigerator and it should be good for a few days as long as your fridge is cold, and sometimes up to a week. Grapefruit is quite high in acid (low pH), and does fairly well in terms of retarding spoilage for short periods. The biggest immedate concern is drying out, which is why the plastic wrap or bag is a good choice. (You want to keep air out.)
