Who are some inspirational social media marketers?

As a newbie in the world of social media marketing and promotion, I feel a bit like I'm walking around in the dark. To me, social media was always friends talking to each other, but there's much more to it than that. Who are some great companies who use social media marketing to its fullest extent? I know some use humor as their marketing strategy, but what else gets clicks? I'd love to follow some companies who really "get" social media.

  1. Of course, I must begin this answer with "it depends on your definition of inspirational." ^_^

But for my money, the most inspirational social media marketer I have ever met is Spike Trotman, of Iron Circus Comics. She kept pitched to comic companies and kept being turned down because the all-white, all-men decision makers could literally not imagine an audience for comics by and about black women.  It is endlessly amazing to me how the people at the top of creative industries lack all imagination, but they sure do.  And they were clear about why they turned her projects down. "No one is going to pay for that."

They were wrong. Iron Circus raised more than a million dollars for the comics they wanted to publish, proving those imaginationless execs wrong.
