How does fresh ice make a difference in NHL games?
The ice is perfectly smooth at the beginning of an NHL game and then again after the Zamboni goes through. The ice gets chewed up as the game goes on and the goalies work hard to keep the ice in the crease as smooth as possible. I wonder if it's a literal game-changer to have perfect ice. NHL players can perform on busted ice, sure, but if the ice were (magically) flawless throughout the entire game, how would the outcome change?
