Just noticing this now?  How much are you currently spending for cable TV?  If your answer is not zero, you probably also record onto VHS.  The kids have abandoned cable TV completely and stream over WiFi from a "community" Internet connection; that's probably illegal, but they also know ways to avoid subscription costs for streaming, which is also of dubious legality (if any).  You may be able to select two or three streamers that carry most of the stuff you want, at a lower cost than a typical cable subscription; but there will always be something you want to watch that isn't on any of them.

The present situation looks to me like a "Wild West" transitional epoch.  At some point one of the big streamers will start to offer "everything" at one price that is slightly lower than "everything" separately -- maybe even substantially lower -- and then they will quickly take over the biz unless others follow suit... which just might restore competition and lower the prices.  Remember, the cost of anything is always the same: "whatever the market will bear", a.k.a. "whatever they can get away with".
