Is there still a stigma against self-publishing?

Until the internet normalized self-publishing, traditional publishing was the way to go. Have opinions about publishing changed? Or is traditional publishing still the best way to gain respect as an author? There are plenty of bestselling self-published authors out there today, including E.L. James, Andy Weir, Rupi Kaur, and so many more. Are they less-respected because they self-published?
