    Oh, try rum or bourbon. Bourbon is what we'd use for a hot toddy, it's full and rich, adds a lot to cider. And rum, can't go wrong with rum  Both would be very compatible with the cider, and add a little zip to the flavor. Spiced rum would add a lot of zip.  See about getting the little bottles to run flavor tests, see what you like best.  I wouldn't do vodka, it has too dry a taste, well, no taste really. And rye whiskey could do the trick too. And Southern Comfort should be an option.  Add orange slices to the cider for a nice garnish.

  2. Depends on your tastes.  If you like sweet drinks, spiced rum might do nicely, or maybe some dessert wine and a bunch of cloves, cinnamon and such.  If you appreciate drier tastes, the traditional spike for cider is brandy.  You can still zing it up with spices.
