Are real Christmas trees dangerous?
We've had a fake christmas tree for years. I mentioned to my wife that we should get a real one next year and she shut me down. She said they're far too dangerous and unsafe.
Is this true? We have real ones when I was a kid and we didn't have any issues.

If you keep it watered and get rid of it right after Xmas, it should be okay. If you keep it until New Year's, let it dry out, and use real candles instead of LED lights, make sure your house insurance covers fire.
Personally, I find the idea of killing a perfectly healthy conifer just to garnish a tribute to consumerism and greed a little off-putting, especially these days when we need every tree we can get to help sequested carbon. If you just want the nice piney smell, it's fine to go prune a few boughs here and there.
