  1. The easy answer to this questions is "Of course you're not a lost cause!" and at some level that is absolutely true - you can definitely learn to dance enough to have fun and look good doing it.

On the other hand, you're starting from a bad place, where you're convinced you "have a terrible sense of rhythm" and you are "not musical at all."  I worked with many people who had that attitude/self-image when they came into the studio, and honestly very few of them stuck with the work long enough to become good dancers.

Any skill you want to learn, you can (I really do beleive that), given the ability to do the work and good coaching.  The amount of work it will take is different for everyone, and the outcomes will be different too.  Can you learn to hear music, and understand rhythm?  Yes!  Might it take Months or Years of work?  Also possibly yes, and not a lot of people are down for that.  Could you learn to play the guitar, never having played any other musical instrument and not knowing how to read music?  You could, but it would be hard!

If dancing is something you really want to learn - whether it is formal ballroom dancing or just being more comfortable at the club (when we're able to back out to the club, don't go now, please) - it will take time and effort.  Good luck!
