What's the best Christmas dessert?
My wife wants to make dessert for Christmas this year but we can't decide which one to pick. We want it to be something really traditional, but we know there are a lot of options when it comes to that.

Plum pudding would be THE most traditional ( https://www.marthastewart.com/258098/plum-pudding ) but that is a whooole lot of work for, meh- a rather soggy, oddly flavored dessert. Better might be gingerbread ( https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/7322/favorite-old-fashioned-gingerbread/ ) which is close, flavor-wise served with real whipped cream. One of my sisters makes peanut-butter pie ( https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/9174/peanut-butter-pie/ ) because that was a family favorite, and in Germany, Lebkuchen is the cookie of choice. ( https://www.daringgourmet.com/traditional-nuernberger-elisenlebkuchen-german-lebkuchen/ )
But in my own family, we have Caramel Pudding.
It's made the same way as the folks just two miles south over the border make Dulce de Leche: A can of sweetened condensed milk, unopened, in a saucepan of water, is gently (<---pay attention to GENTLY) simmered for an couple hours, then removed from the heat, chilled, and serve with real whipped cream. Rich. Decadent. Sweeeeeet.
It's delicious. ( https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2015/02/dulce-de-leche-recipe.html )
