Do books risk damage on the bookshelf?
I have A LOT of books. Of course I can't read them all regularly, so they sit on the bookshelves for long periods of time. Are they getting damaged from sitting for so long?

Most hard bound books are made with davey board (compressed cardboard) on the front and back for stability. The spine is often the softest part of the book for flexibility. As long as the books remain upright, dry and level, they can last for years.
If your looking for a more secure way to preserve certain ones, a slip cover (custom box) is advisable.
