How in the world do you keep socks sorted into pairs?
This may seem like a silly question but I have to ask. How do people keep their family's socks sorted into pairs? We are a family of 5 with three young children. When doing laundry it seems that we never end up with well-paired socks. Our current solution is just to place ALL socks in a giant "sock basket" in our laundry room. However, sometimes I really wish we could keep the socks paired nicely together. What have you done to help socks stay in pairs during their journey through the wash?

Sock sorters (aka sock locks) may possibly be the epitome of modern civilization. The internet, particle accelerators, nanotechnology - all of them pale in comparison to the mighty sock sorter.
Yes, those are retro Hulk socks. You should see the Iron Man ones. Deal with it, people.
Awright, everybody. Stay in yer lane!
In the 1970’s in my home failure to place every single pair of socks into one of these things was punishable by Mom with hard labor or being chained to the wall of the Oubliette. Even today you can get forty eight of these beauties for seven bucks. It has gradually become harder to find them on store shelves, but we live in the age of Everything can be bought from the intertubes.

They come in single rings for thinner fabric, or a sharp pair of scissors can snip them apart.
Solo ring for the slinkier footwear.

Of course, some busybody had to come along and invent these contraptions which make it into a two step operation instead of just jamming the toes into the ring and tugging. These would be helpful with people having trouble with finger strength.
Close the jaws over both socks, slide the back part over them until they click.
You can leave your socks in them until you are about to put them on, then drop these little wonders into a container near the hamper, laundry basket or wherever else you stash your dirty laundry. If you have teen aged sons this might be a trash compacter or a small nuclear reactor.
Other designs exist, but I love the classic design. Socks escape from them rarely enough that you may occasionally nab one sock in a load trying to make a break for it. These miracles of footwear management technology greatly reduces the number of pathetic socks seen by the side of the road lost, torn and dirty.
GPS, microsurgery, 32 core processors, pffffft.
Sock sorters are it.
