Which freelancing websites offer livable wages?

I've used Upwork and Fiverr with moderate success, but most of the budgets are shockingly low. $5 for half a day's work might be okay for some, but that's far too little for me to make a job worth my time. Should I keep sifting through these sites and look for the rare gems, or is there a better place?

The better paying freelance jobs are posted more often on category specific websites. “A big pile of anybody” type sites like Fiverr attract people with little or undeveloped skills, work history, and qualifications/certifications. They are useful for building skills and getting your foot in the door to start to create a work history. The halfway decent gigs are tough to find, but they can be amassed to build a resume. In addition,  many sites attract workers from countries who speak English to some degree where five or ten US dollars goes a long way. For example, Numbeo lists the average monthly after tax income in India as $443.40 in US dollars.

Solidgigs lists the best 2% of general freelance jobs online.

Cloudpeeps and ServiceScape are slightly more exclusive, work experience is needed.

The best paying jobs are available through sites that require workers to apply to join and are selective about who they approve. They vet companies as well, not bothering you with shady ones or those without better budgets. They may charge a monthly fee to job seekers, companies, or both. They attract higher end clients who are more demanding about the quality of work done. Better coding job sites may require you to pass a test.

For Virtual Assistants, this would be Worldwide 101. No beginners need apply.

Video Editors can find great gigs at Assemble. tv. You need to be able to demonstrate professional level skills.

For writers, Contena lists well paying gigs and remote full time jobs. An ebook writing gig posted there for a tech publication paid $10,000 per month.

Graphic designers, artists, producers and advertising creatives should go to Working Not Working. Working steadily there can lead to yearly pay well over $100,000 year. They are extremely picky.

Web developers/coders should check out Gun.io, Lorem, Gigster, and YouTeam.

For marketers, People Per Hour is worth what they charge after you make your first 15 free applications.
