How can I get myself back on track?

About a year ago, I set a 12 month goal for myself. I started off doing well, but my life took a turn and the goal was pushed to the back burner. Now I'm running out of time to finish the goal. How can I pick myself back up and finish what I started, so close to the deadline?

Life will always interfere with any plans we may have, life does that. Your plans are relatively insignificant compared to what life dictates, so any plans you have may need to be adjusted and realigned. Not being cruel, but life will always have its way, no matter what your plans are.  So you evaluate your situation, see what you can do to adapt to the changes, what you can do to realign with your desires to see if you can make them work. If the plans don't mesh together well, then you need to look at options for your goals, pushing the line back for reaching the goal, or reevaluating to see if another route is possible.

When life causes you to change plans, it will impact any plans you had and often those changes end up changing you as well. It's not always possible to pick yourself back up - you've changed, your life path changed, so you have to reevaluate that path and see what is still workable. If it were easy, you wouldn't be asking, so something here has changed for you making it seem like you can't reach that goal. Ask yourself if the goal is still reasonable to achieve. And if it is, then there's no other answer than to re-engage and move forward as best you can.

So you understand perhaps a bit why I answered the way I did, I've got a lot of experience with life plans changing, and what I've learned is that you can't always get back on that same path. Sometimes you can, sometimes the goal ends up being farther away than when you left it. If enough time has passed, the door may be partially, if not completely, closed.  So it does require evaluating the options to see if the goal is a viable one. If it's something like going back to finish your education, then, take a class or two to get back into that groove, start smaller and try and realign yourself with that goal path. It can be hard, it can be possible, but in some cases, I swear the universe has a different plan for us, and it will impede any attempts you make to return to that path.

There's a behavior that I like to suggest and it's a bit of physics, that you work with the flow of energy movement. You are not trying to force things, but allowing movement to happen from a small push, and being in alignment with that movement. So, what that means is that you start moving towards that goal, and if it's a right move for you, it will happen. But don't try to push hard when re-engaging or the energy could break. You likely didn't jump into that original goal but moved into it, so I suggest you turn your direction and start to move into it again. It's much like stopping and turning an ocean liner. It can take more than 10 nautical miles to turn an ocean liner. Think of yourself as that ship. It meets only a little resistance from the water, but the momentum of the ship requires that much distance to slow down to turn. It can't just happen on command. Be like that ship. Prepare for a turn.
