  1. There are a ton of ways to do this. In today's tech world, there are really two environments to consider:

    1. At home on the same Wifi network as the other computer:
      • There are a number of ways to access your computer directly. If you're using Windows, you can create a network file share on your desktop's hard drive and then access it as a "network drive" from your gaming machine.
      • You can also create a cloud drive to access your files locally and remotely. Most cloud services like Google Drive and Dropbox automatically sync all files to the cloud that are contained within their root folder. Any changes you make will automatically be propagated to all the other computers accessing that shared cloud drive.
      • If remote desktop is your goal, you can use something like Windows Remote Desktop Protocol or https://anydesk.com as a potential tool to have full desktop access.
    2. On the road and connected to a non-home internet connection:
      • Cloud services are still going to be your best bet here. I'd highly recommend one of those.
      • If you're looking for full access to the desktop, you may need to check your firewall settings on your internet router at home to allow remote desktop protocol or RDP to gain access from outside. Be careful with security settings here as you could allow potential hackers to get into your system and home network.

Either way, lag shouldn't be a problem at all if you have a good wifi or internet connection on both devices. Lag is mostly a thing of the past with regards to modern networks. If you're experiencing network lag right now, it's most likely due to computer resources like CPU and memory bogging down and not your internet connection.

You can always test the internet speeds for both ends by navigating to https://speediest.net and seeing your results. As long as the upload and download speeds are both above 25Mbps, you're all set.
