    All 10 year olds are different.

    In terms of content the game is probably fine. Oblique reference to alcohol, (making and selling but not drinking or intoxication), no sex, violence, gambling etc.

    In terms of complexity I would put it significantly above Setlers or Ticket to Ride. My 11 year old has played Viticulture several times and enjoyed it but is probably not typical. He has also played Terraforming Mars and Through the Ages and attends a gaming club most weekends.

    I would certainly not recomend Viticulture as a first game, I would discourage my son from trying to play it with friends his age unless I was confident they had similar experience. That said I would not recomend Viticulture to an adult unless I was confident they already enjoyed complex board games.

    But for a 10 year old who already enjoys complex board games it should be fine.

    A lot depends on how much prior board game experience your 10-year old has.  Viticulture is comprable to Settlers of Cataan in terms of complexity, at least in the base game, just slightly more moving parts with the spring/fall and meeple management.  If they haven't played anything more complicated than Ticket to Ride then you'll want to make sure you take plenty of time to work through the basic rules with them before they play without assistance.  

    If, on the other hand, they've already figured out how to play Terraforming Mars, they will be just fine.  :)
