How often should I change the filter in my forced-air furnace?
I have a forced air furnace that is around 20 years old (which is about the expected lifespan). In Minnesota, I use it all summer and winter. I am hoping to extend its life as much as possible. I currently change the filters once per month, as recommended. Would changing them more often keep it working longer?

Changing your furnace filter schedule depends on a couple things, the type of filter, and if you have pets. Regular filters are recommended to be changed every 90 days, and 60 days if you have a dog or cat. The filter protects the fan from dust and particles to keep the fan working well. You’re already ahead of the curve, you could relax a bit on the changing schedule, but you’re in good shape as is. Unless you wanted to opt for a higher-rated filter, which could filter more particles, but the increased filtration might cost the furnace to work a little harder. You’re good as you are.
Thank you, this is super helpful.
