If I had half an acre of land and a strong back, I'd make a market garden for part of it, and pastureland for some animal for the other part. But that's just me and that's exactly what I did back in the 90's when I was in my twenties and thirties. It goes without saying that I also had shelter for the animals, given that I live in Canada. I doubt one can make as much with regular veggies and berries as one can with cannabis but lots of people do make market gardens and take produce to farmers' markets within driving distance. I myself lived next to town and had a roadside stand as well as customers who came to the door.

Customers would wait in the yard or at the side of the garden while I picked a dozen sweet corn for them. Or they would pick up a basket of peas they had ordered. Or several quarts of berries. A few customers ventured into the garden with me. In Canada with its short growing season, people have to be fairly creative to serve farmers markets year round. I was never that serious about it. Depending where you live you can make quite a nice buck from flowers, dried or fresh. Do your research to see what grows in your area and what markets exist. Sometimes it is possible for private growers to set up a contract with a local company or store.
