Are presidential elections always this heated?

I was 18 the last election and I remember hearing a lot of crazy rumors and allegations and I would say it was comparable to the last election in terms of media craziness and social divide, but is that just a Trump thing or have previous elections been similar?

I’ve never followed much of politics in the past, never engaged much at all though I recall a few elections that were controversial, and even heated. But this one is the worst I’ve seen, it’s volatile and divisive beyond anything I’ve seen In my life. And to note, this one, I’ve been very active and campaigning vigorously as well. Got to just say, that for me, politics has always been boring and tedious, all the hot air that gets thrown around. But this time, I’m off my seat, roaring like crazy, because this time, we need to get rid of a vile and despicable misogynistic self-interested blowhard who’s lying to intentionally deceive and get his way.  He’s done everything he can to undermine the election process, he’s taking people’s rights away, and he’s condemning the country to foreign control. And he’s inciting people to violence. He’s setting people against each other to a level beyond wild. Reports came out of Biden’s traveling caravan was gone after by road warriors who tried to run the vehicles off the road. This, by a supposed leader of the free world encouraging such violence. Hells bells, this is one hell of an election fight, one that has been instigating hate wars not seen before in many lifetimes, and now dead serious. This is by far the most contentious election of my life. And if it was only enough to fully engage me, then damn.
